Question
To get better deep water performance, is it better to increase power or to change to a lower frequency?
Solution
You can increase performance both ways. The lower in frequency you go, the deeper the echo sounder will see for the same amount of power. However, discrimination will be reduced as the depth increases. This is why sometimes an increase in power with a higher frequency will achieve better results. You can also increase the echo sounder's detection range by using a narrower beam transducer.
