Antenna requirements for a Furuno weatherfax receiver

Question

What antennas may be used with my Furuno Weatherfax receiver?

Solution

There are two basic antenna options for Furuno Weatherfax Receivers:

1. A FAX-5 active coupler must be used with a eight foot (2.6m) fiberglass or stainless steel whip antenna. The eight foot antenna will yield much better results than shorter antennas because of the wave length, particularly offshore or farther away from the broadcasting station.

2. If no FAX-5 coupler is used a back stay, long wire or whip type antenna can be used. A minimum antenna length of (6m) 23 feet is required for the whip type.  Long wire antennas need to be 15M or longer.

Note: Jumper must be set based on antenna type (powered [FAX5 coupler] or non powered). Please refer to your installation manual for proper jumper configuration.
