Question
My fishfinder screen gets "streaky" and full of static when I drive my boat over 5 mph. What is causing this? It works ok when idling or setting still.
Solution
Your fishfinder's transducer should be checked by a qualified Furuno representative for proper installation. The screen is indicating noise caused by turbulence or air bubbles passing over the face of the transducer. This can also be caused by engine noise issues at different engine speeds. Proper grounding and/or rerouting of the transducer cable should eliminate or reduce the problem.
