Furuno DS60 Compact Doppler Sonar
Delivers Accurate, Reliable Docking And
Manuevering Capability At Affordable Cost

3-Axis Doppler Sonar provides both precision and power

Camas, WA, December 31, 2011 - Precise measurement capability at dead slow speed is absolutely vital for precise docking of a 50,000 GT or larger tanker or cargo vessel, as well as safe navigation in narrow channels or straits. Getting the job done safely and efficiently requires the aid of accurate, reliable Doppler Sonar providing real-time information for both ship’s motion and water speed.

With this in mind, Furuno is proud to announce the new, compact Doppler Sonar, the DS60. The Furuno DS60 is a precision, 3-axis Doppler Sonar designed to output required information for berthing and docking operation by providing accurate ship's speed data over a wide range. Speeds are detected relative to the ground or water for both fore-aft and port-starboard directions.

The DS60 is able to provide highly accurate measurements using Furuno’s new, downsized transducer. While smaller in size, the DS60 transducer unit retains the precision and power of the highly popular DS30, greatly reducing the time and space needed for installation. This compact, high-frequency transducer operates at 320 kHz, offering no interference with other sounding equipment on the vessel. Using three individual beams, which reduces the effects of pitch and roll, the Furuno transducer accurately measures ship's longitudinal (fore-aft) and transverse (port-starboard) speed, as well as water speed and direction under the hull.

The DS60 display unit features an 8.4-inch color LCD screen that shows a variety of information in both alphanumerics and graphics. It offers three display modes: 3-axis speed, berthing and NAV data. Display modes can be switched with the optional remote controller, and additional remote displays may be added as needed. An IP56 waterproof box is available for exposed wing installations.

The DS60 complies with IMO MSC.36(63), MSC.96(72), A.694(17) and A.824(19), and is designed for vessels of 50,000 GT and up, such as container vessels, VLCC and other tankers. The DS661 gate valve and tank is standard supply. If a tank without gate valve is desired, the DS661 may be replaced with the optional DS660 tank without flange.
