SafeHelm2 Provides Extra Layer Of Safety And Versatility To Furuno NavPilot 300/711C

SafeHelm2 is a new sensor for NavPilot 300/711C autopilot systems that provides an extra layer of safety and versatility. When it senses the operator is manually steering the vessel while the autopilot is engaged, SafeHelm2 switches the NavPilot to manual steering, allowing the helmsman full manual control of the vessel - a valuable feature in situations in which the helmsman needs to change course immediately without deactivating the autopilot.

Camas, WA - Furuno USA has announced the release of SafeHelm2, a new sensor for NavPilot 300/711C autopilot systems that provides an extra layer of safety and versatility. When it senses the operator is manually steering the vessel while the autopilot is engaged, SafeHelm2 switches the NavPilot to manual steering, allowing the helmsman full manual control of the vessel. When a specified time interval has elapsed and the helmsman is holding a steady course, SafeHelm2 re-engages the previous automatic steering mode.

SafeHelm2 is a valuable feature to have in situations in which the helmsman needs to change course immediately without deactivating the autopilot. There is no need to scramble to the NavPilot display to disengage the autopilot or restart automatic navigation once the course is clear. Just grab the wheel, steer the vessel safely around the obstacle, then hold your course until the NavPilot re-engages.

SafeHelm2 provides the full experience of both Helm Movement Autopilot Control and Furuno’s Power-Assist Steering (FPS). The sensitivity of the system and “Return to Auto/Nav Mode” delay time can be customized by the installer and adjusted by the operator at any time after installation to ensure optimal steering performance. The package includes all of the adapter fittings to add the SafeHelm2 sensor to any hydraulic helm vessel with a new or existing reversing pump system and works with Furuno NavPilot 300 or NavPilot 711C autopilots with no additional software or hardware upgrade. Simply install the sensor, connect SafeHelm2 to the NavPilot Processor Unit, and initialize the software.
