M/Y Katharine Refit Showcases Furuno Chart Radar, ECDIS And More

Making Your Vessel New With A New Suite Of Electronics

Camas, WA - January 16, 2018 - In 2000, Costruzioni e Riparazioni Navali (CRN) delivered the M/Y Katharine, a 61.3-meter custom built super yacht from their shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The Katharine has recently completed a top-to-bottom refit that includes a complete interior redesign, new tender and personal watercraft, and a bridge redesign that includes a comprehensive suite of new, top-of-the-line Furuno electronics that was planned and installed by McLaughlin Marine Electronics of Pompano Beach, FL.

M/Y Katharine is a stunning example of how a refit can breathe new life into a well-traveled vessel. The new bridge includes a full suite of Furuno electronics featuring their award-winning FMD3200 series ECDIS and FAR3000 series Chart Radar. Since the new Furuno equipment is compatible with Katharine's existing X7 Series Radar, a simple software upgrade was all it took to allow for complete integration into the network. Her new bridge is now completely integrated, with three levels of sensor backup and full equipment redundancy. Katharine now qualifies for paperless navigation, allowing for simpler and more accurate voyage planning as well as continuous monitoring of the vessel's position. While the majority of this impressive project is meant to create a sense of luxury and grandeur for her passengers, Furuno's behind-the-scenes contribution truly brought the Katharine into the 21st century with the most current innovations available, offering her guests and crew safety at sea.

Katharine's impressive Furuno network includes the GS100 Satellite Speed Log, BR500 Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System, GMDSS and FELCOM communications equipment, along with a selection of depth and weather sensors, as well as FI70, RD50 and RD33 information displays located at key points throughout the vessel.

M/Y Katharine the boasts a length of 61.3 meters, beam of 11 meters, a 3.5-meter draft, and her twin 2,000hp Caterpillar engines deliver a cruising speed of 13.5 knots.

Katharine's top-to-bottom, fore-to-aft update employed nearly 40 different contractors, with Furuno USA, Inc. consulting on all of the bridge electronics. Furuno's products were installed and commissioned by McLaughlin Marine Electronics of Pompano Beach, FL, a trusted Elite Dealer since 2006.
