The United States Coast Guard has taken delivery of USCGC Joseph Doyle, and at the heart of her state-of-the-art command, control, and communications equipment lies a full suite of Furuno marine electronics.

Camas, WA - The United States Coast Guard has taken delivery of their newest Fast Response Cutter, USCGC Joseph Doyle. Built by Bollinger Shipyards in South Louisiana, the 154-foot Sentinel-class FRC was delivered on March 21st in Key West, Florida. USCGC Joseph Doyle is the 33rd such vessel in service, and the latest of 58 planned FRC's to be delivered. She can attain speeds of 28 knots, and carries a complement of 20 crewmen and 4 officers. At the heart of her state-of-the-art command, control, and communications equipment lies a full suite of Furuno marine electronics.

USCGC Joseph Doyle's helm includes a Furuno FAR2127BB as the main AN/SPS-50 Surface Search Radar, and her Tactical AN/SPS-78 and -79 Radars utilize Furuno antennas with a customized user interface. NavNet TZtouch TZT9 and TZT14 Multi-Function Displays are networked with both a 50/200 kHz DFF1 Fish Finder and DRS6AX X-Class Radar as a Scalable Integrated Navigation System (SINS). A Furuno GP170D provides accurate positioning to the vessel's navigation equipment.

Fast Response Cutters are purpose-built to perform various Coast Guard missions including ports, waterways and coastal security, defense operations, maritime law enforcement such as drug interdiction, search and rescue, marine safety, and environmental protection. Currently on sea trials, and once commissioned, the Joseph Doyle will make its home port in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is named for Joseph O. Doyle, a 17-year member and distinguished keeper with the U.S. Life Saving Service, a precursor to our modern day United States Coast Guard. Doyle was a recipient of the Gold Lifesaving Medal, one of the oldest medals of honor in the United States, in recognition for heroic action in the conduct of two distinct rescue operations of shipwrecked sailors.

Furuno is proud and honored to assist the USCG in its mission to secure the Nation's maritime safety and security every day. For more information on Furuno Marine Electronics, contact: Furuno U.S.A., 4400 N.W. Pacific Rim Blvd., Camas, WA 98607. Phone: (360) 834-9300.
